The Odeon at South Market Unveils Extensive Art Collection Centering Local, Female Artists

Mural

New Orleans, LA One of New Orleans’ newest Downtown developments, The Odeon at South Market, is proud to display a diverse range of artwork anchored by both local and female artists, including a large-scale mural facing Loyola Avenue. The vibrant 53-by-24-foot mural was painted by native New Orleanian Anastasia Pelias.

The Odeon’s namesake is one of the main inspirations behind its artwork, named after ancient Greek and Roman buildings dedicated to musical performances. Pelias’ mural, created using Morflex and acrylic paint on an aluminum composite panel, aligns with the theme. Pelias, an interdisciplinary artist who paints intuitively to music, listened to a soundtrack curated by The Odeon’s staff as she painted to create a visual manifestion of the music.

Local interior design firm Farouki Farouki curated the building’s art collection around this “music visualized” narrative, and their French Quarter-inspired color palette sets the scene for a beautiful space to house the art.

“Featuring the work of local, female artists was key to creating meaningful spaces throughout The Odeon, and we’re especially proud to share this collection during Women’s History Month,” said Amy Gray, Domain’s interior design manager. “Being located in a vibrant city full of diverse artists, we purposefully partnered with these talented creators in an effort to compliment the modern design elements.”

The Odeon’s collection features mainly female artists, including several from the Greater New Orleans area and Louisiana. Local artist Maggie Boggs was commissioned by The Domain Companies for four of her ethereal paintings at The Odeon, with two in the lobby, one in a guest suite, and another in the two-bedroom model unit.

Four colorful paintings by Erica Lambertson reside in the fifth floor corridor of the building. The pieces were inspired by the work of New Orleans-based photographer Akasha Rabut, who captures the American South in her pieces. Located on the fifth floor are two paintings from local artist Anne Blenker.

Based out of Lafayette, La., Preservation Press’ work can also be viewed inside The Odeon. The hand-pressed flower artwork is displayed in one of the model apartments and a guest suite. The work of Toni Point, who resides in southern Louisiana, is located in a second guest suite.

Other notable artists on display in The Odeon include regional, national, and global creators: Anna Koeferl, The Heidies, William Luz, Marc Gabor, Gail Tarantino, Vincent Weber, Amy Gray, Angus Martin, Floyd P. Stanley, Laura Naples and Karen Gayle Tinney — many of whom contributed to the building’s musical narrative.

The Odeon at South Market is the tallest building constructed in New Orleans in over 30 years. The 30-story, 414,000-square-foot building includes 271 studio, one-, and two-bedroom market-rate apartments and penthouses, 200 parking spaces, and 12,000 square feet of retail space being leased through New Orleans-based Corporate Realty.
